Description
What the GT-5 is good at
Speed gates detect tailgating and respond to it. The GT-5 prevents it by design. The rotor geometry allows only one person through per authorised cycle, and once the rotor has turned 60 degrees in the authorised direction, reverse rotation is mechanically blocked. That means no tailgating events to review, no sensitivity to tune, and no decisions for the system to get wrong. The trade-off is passage width: at 650 mm the GT-5 is not suitable for wheelchair users, and a separate accessible entrance is needed alongside it. It also does not function as a fire-egress route on its own, so building layout needs to account for that. For most fitness and sports facilities these are straightforward planning considerations rather than dealbreakers.
Security
The only realistic bypass methods are two people entering the same rotor sector simultaneously, which is visible and impractical, or credential sharing. Mechanical anti-passback means the same credential cannot be used twice in succession without an exit event registered in between. Reverse-direction entry is blocked by the rotor locking mechanism. On fire alarm or power loss the rotor releases for free egress and stays open until conditions are cleared. The gate locks automatically if an open signal is received but no one passes within the configurable timeout.
User experience
The hydraulic damper absorbs the kinetic energy of the rotating arm, which makes the GT-5 noticeably quieter than undamped full-height designs. The open frame design gives a less institutional impression than traditional full-height turnstiles built from solid metal panels. Throughput of 30 to 40 persons per minute is adequate for fitness centre peak hours when lanes are configured correctly. LED indicators show passage status on both sides.
Integration & customisation
Connects to any access control system over dry contact or RS485. Compatible credential types include RFID, QR, face recognition, fingerprint and remote control. Frame available in 304 or 316 stainless steel, or powder coated in any RAL colour. Optional roof, lighting and mounting base available. Reader cutouts configurable to fit any credential module.
Durability & environment
IP54, rated for -30 to +80 degrees Celsius, which covers any Nordic outdoor or indoor condition. 316 stainless steel available for pool-side or coastal environments. Gatech has more operational history with this product category than any other in our range. Based on that track record, a correctly installed GT-5 will reach ten years of continuous service before any significant mechanical intervention is needed.
